How Ken Talk handles conversation content and other information

Ken Vision LLC (“Ken Vision,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates Ken Talk, an offline conversation translator designed for two people sharing one physical device. This Privacy Policy explains what Ken Talk handles on the device, what may leave the device, and the choices available to the person hosting the conversation on their device (the host). The other participant is the partner.

1. Who we are

Ken Vision LLC is a company registered in New Mexico, United States.

For privacy questions or requests, contact privacy@ken.vision.

2. Conversation processing stays on the device

Once the language files needed for the selected languages are installed, Ken Talk performs speech recognition, translation, and speech generation on the device. Ken Talk itself does not upload the participants’ recordings, typed words, recognized text, corrections, translations, or generated speech. A person can nevertheless choose to include content displayed by Ken Talk in store or testing feedback, or in an email, as described in Sections 7 and 8.

Ken Talk uses the microphone only after a participant starts recording. It keeps a recording in private temporary storage only while that same recording can still be used to transcribe the participant’s speech or offer a retry. Ken Talk deletes the recording when it can no longer be used for either purpose. Recordings are not restored if the operating system stops the application; Ken Talk deletes any recording left in temporary storage the next time it starts. Speech generated by Ken Talk may remain available for replay during the current conversation. Ken Talk deletes this generated audio when the current conversation is cleared or the selected languages change. Audio is never included in the saved recovery copy.

If the host deliberately chooses Paste, Ken Talk reads the selected plain-text clipboard content for that action and processes it locally. Ken Talk does not provide a conversation export or general copy function.

3. Continuing the current conversation

Ken Talk keeps one current conversation on the device by default. This lets the conversation return if the application is stopped while it is not visible, for example after the host switches apps, locks the phone, or leaves Ken Talk in the background. It is a continuity feature, not a conversation archive:

  • only the current conversation is eligible for recovery;
  • there is no earlier-conversation list, search, cloud copy, or Ken account;
  • conversation content is excluded from device backup and transfer;
  • audio, playback position, and participant reading positions are not restored; and
  • earlier delivered text may remain linked to a correction while the current conversation exists, but the displayed conversation is not a verified transcript of what either person said or intended.

The recovery copy can include the selected languages, delivered original and translated text, earlier and corrected versions of delivered text, and an unfinished contribution, whether typed or produced by completed speech recognition. It does not include audio, recognition still in progress, or a translation that was not delivered.

The host can turn off Restore recent conversation in Settings. Turning it off deletes the saved recovery copy and stops Ken Talk from saving the conversation text for recovery. The current conversation text then exists only in the running app’s memory: it remains visible while the app continues running, but it cannot return if the operating system stops the app. This setting does not change the temporary recording and replay audio described in Section 2. The host can clear the current conversation by choosing New conversation.

If Ken Talk was not visible or was stopped, it handles the current conversation according to the time since the last conversation activity:

  • if no more than one hour has passed since the last activity, the conversation can return directly;
  • if more than one hour but less than six hours has passed, Ken Talk hides the text and asks the host whether to continue that conversation or start a new one; and
  • if at least six hours has passed, Ken Talk deletes the conversation the next time the app is running and able to do so.

Ken Talk cannot delete stored data while it is not running. If the operating system has stopped Ken Talk when the six-hour limit is reached, the expired recovery copy remains in private, backup-excluded application storage until Ken Talk next starts and deletes it, or until the application data is removed. It is not restored or shown as a current conversation.

A conversation that remains open in the running app also expires after six hours without conversation activity. Ken Talk waits for work already in progress, such as recording or playback, to finish or stop before deleting it.

Starting a new conversation or changing the selected languages also clears the current conversation and its recovery copy. If deletion cannot be completed, Ken Talk keeps the old conversation hidden and reports the problem rather than claiming it was removed.

Leaving the conversation screen, switching apps, or locking the phone does not by itself mean that the conversation has ended. Before using Ken Talk with a different partner, the host should start a new conversation so that the previous conversation is cleared from Ken Talk.

4. Limits of application deletion

Ken Talk can clear only the content it controls inside the application on the device. It cannot prevent or erase photographs, screenshots, screen recordings, external recordings, memories, or information copied or repeated outside Ken Talk. The host controls the physical device and may have access to content that remains on its screen. Operating-system features and other services that the host enables, such as accessibility or screen-sharing services, may also be able to read or capture displayed content.

5. Other information kept on the device

Ken Talk keeps settings and operational state needed to provide the application, such as selected languages, application language, speech preferences, conversation-recovery preference, and which language files are installed and ready to use. Ken Talk also evaluates device capabilities, available storage, and installed language files locally to determine whether the device can support the selected languages.

On Android, Ken Talk excludes its application data from device backup and transfer. On iOS, ordinary settings may be included in a device backup, but the conversation recovery copy and temporary audio are excluded.

The store or operating-system provider may deliver the application and its language files. Those providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies.

6. Information sent to Ken Vision by the current app

The current version of Ken Talk does not require a Ken account, send conversation content or technical diagnostics to Ken Vision, or process purchases.

7. App stores and testing platforms

Apple, Google, and other distribution providers may independently process app installation, device, store-account, purchase, security, and diagnostic information under their own privacy policies. Ken Vision does not receive full payment-card or bank-account details from them.

Store and testing platforms may make distribution, usage, and quality information available to Ken Vision, depending on the person’s platform settings and how the application is distributed. This can include installation or testing status, sessions, device and operating-system information, crash or unresponsive-application reports, and aggregated usage information. Feedback submitted through a testing service can also include the tester’s name or email address, comments, and screenshots.

Ken Vision uses information supplied through a store or beta platform to operate testing, investigate failures, respond to feedback, and prepare Ken Talk for review and distribution. The platform controls its own collection and retention. Ken Vision limits access to people who need it for those purposes. A screenshot or other feedback attachment can contain whatever the tester captures, including conversation content displayed on the screen. Please do not submit conversation audio or text unless it is necessary for the feedback and you are entitled to share it.

8. This privacy website and direct contact

Ken Vision uses service providers in the European Union to host this privacy website and its privacy email service. This website contains no advertising, analytics, tracking scripts, cookies, forms, or externally hosted fonts. Its hosting and network providers necessarily process request information such as an IP address, requested page, time, and browser protocol to deliver and protect the site. Ken Vision retains any operational security logs only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate and protect the site or meet legal obligations.

If you email Ken Vision, we receive your email address and the information you choose to include. Please do not send conversation audio or text unless it is necessary for your request and you are entitled to share it. We use direct correspondence to answer the request, investigate the issue, protect Ken Talk, and meet legal obligations. We retain it only for as long as those purposes reasonably require.

9. Sharing and disclosure

Ken Vision does not sell personal information and does not use Ken Talk data for third-party advertising or cross-service tracking.

We disclose information only:

  • to providers acting for us where necessary to host this page, deliver email, or operate an explicitly described service;
  • when required by law or valid legal process; or
  • when reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, security, and integrity of Ken Vision, Ken Talk, its users, or others.

10. Security, retention, and deletion

Ken Talk uses application-private storage and platform protections for local state. Conversation recovery is excluded from platform backup. No security measure can eliminate every risk on a device controlled by another person or on a compromised device.

Local conversation retention and deletion follow Section 3. Removing Ken Talk from the device removes its application-controlled local data, subject to the operating system’s behavior. Ken Vision cannot remotely retrieve or delete that local content because Ken Vision never receives it.

Store and beta providers control records in their own systems. Requests about records controlled by Apple, Google, or another provider may also need to be directed to that provider. Ken Vision applies the retention criteria in Sections 7 and 8 to information under its control.

11. Your choices and rights

The host can disable conversation recovery, clear the current conversation by starting a new one, control microphone permission through the operating system, and stop using or remove Ken Talk. These controls cannot remove copies outside the application.

A partner who wants the local conversation cleared should ask the host to choose New conversation while they are together. Ken Vision cannot access or clear a conversation stored on the host’s device.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask about, access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing of personal information, and to complain to a data-protection authority. Contact privacy@ken.vision to exercise a right concerning information controlled by Ken Vision. We may need enough information to verify and respond to the request. There is generally no Ken-held conversation record to retrieve because conversation content is not sent to us.

12. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when Ken Talk’s data practices materially change. The effective timestamp identifies the current revision. Once a revision has been used publicly, Ken Vision preserves it at an immutable archive URL before replacing it.
